What is ahead for the 2026 field season

Hello everyone,

I trust this year’s field season is off to a good start for you. I also hope calving has gone smoothly for our beef producers.

As you know, 2026 marks the final year of the Peace Region Living Lab (PRLL). It’s remarkable how quickly time has passed since we began in 2022. Over the past years, our Living Lab has brought producers and applied research associations together across both the Alberta and British Columbia sides of the Peace Region. This collaboration has created valuable opportunities to learn from one another and advance practical, on-farm innovation.
On behalf of the staff and Board of the Peace Region Forage Seed Association (PRFSA), as well as PRLL management, I would like to sincerely thank you for your participation and commitment. Your willingness to allocate land for both BMP and check areas, support ongoing data collection, and engage with our team through calls, visits, and discussions has been essential. You have also contributed meaningfully to extension activities over the past four years, including cluster learning sessions, the Below-Ground Conferences, and farm tours during the AAFC visit to the Peace Region. We are truly grateful. Thank You!

Over the course of the project, we have collected a wide range of field and laboratory data in collaboration with your local applied research association (a key PRLL partner). These activities have included co-environmental benefit assessments, soil sampling for carbon mapping and nutrient analysis, and quality testing of grain, forage, crop residue, and grass aftermath through A&L Laboratory.

By now, you should have received hard copies of several reports from your applied research association, including:
  1. Preliminary tables on soil water infiltration and soil moisture
  2. Baseline soil carbon maps (from 1m sampling conducted in 2023)
  3. Annual fall soil nutrient reports
  4. Forage quality reports (A&L Laboratory)
  5. Crop residue and/or grass aftermath quality reports (as applicable to your BMP and check)
  6. Grain and/or forage seed quality reports (as applicable)
If you have not received any of the reports relevant to your BMP and check, please follow up with your applied research association to ensure you have copies for your records and to track changes on your BMP and check over time.

If you have any questions, don't hesitate to get in touch with the PRLL Program Director at director@peacelivinglab.ca.

Once again, thank you for your continued support, collaboration, and openness in making PRLL a success. Your contributions have helped build knowledge that will benefit producers, extension personnel and scientists across the Peace Region and beyond.

Warm regards,
Talon
